PetFamily Privacy Policy
PetFamily ("we," "our," or "the app") is a pet care coordination app for iOS. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle your information when you use the PetFamily app. By using the app, you agree to this policy.
1. Information We Collect and How We Use It
1.1 Information you provide (stored on your device)
The app stores the following data locally on your iPhone or iPad. We do not require an account or email to use the app.
- Pet information: Pet name, species, breed, birth date, weight, photo (avatar), custom color, and care mode.
- Tasks and routines: Task titles, dates and times, recurrence rules, assignments, and reminders.
- Medications: Medication names, dosages, notes, and schedules per pet.
- Health records: Health event titles, descriptions, dates, veterinarian name, cost, temperature, and attachments.
- Weight history: Weight measurements and dates per pet.
This data is stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData and may be synced across your devices via iCloud when you use sync (see section 4). We use it only to provide app features (reminders, calendar, search, health timeline, etc.). We do not upload this content to our servers for storage or processing.
1.2 Pet photos (avatars)
If you grant access, we use the Camera and Photo Library to let you set a photo for your pet's profile. Photos are saved on your device and, when iCloud sync is enabled, may be stored in your iCloud Drive. We do not upload pet photos to our own servers.
1.3 Notifications
If you allow notifications, we schedule local reminders for tasks and medications. The notification content may include your pet's name and the task title so you can see what the reminder is for. These notifications are created and delivered by your device; we do not send push messages from a server.
1.4 Preferences and settings
We store your in-app preferences on your device (e.g. haptic feedback on/off, pet order, whether to show overdue tasks, onboarding completed). This is used only to personalize your experience.
2. Automatic Collection: Analytics and Crash Reporting
2.1 Analytics (Firebase Analytics)
We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used (e.g. feature usage, screen views, subscription funnel). We do not send:
- Your name, email, or other account identifiers
- Pet names or any free-text you enter
- Health notes or vet details
We do send anonymous, aggregated information such as: app version, device type, locale, whether a pet was created (and species), task/health event types, subscription-related events (e.g. paywall viewed, purchase completed), and similar non-personal data. This helps us improve the app and is processed according to Google's privacy policy.
2.2 Crash and error reporting (Firebase Crashlytics)
We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and some non-fatal errors. This can include device model, OS version, and logs we attach (e.g. "Store reset performed by user") to diagnose issues. We do not attach pet names, task text, or health data to these reports. Crashlytics is subject to Google's privacy policy.
You can disable analytics and Crashlytics via your device settings (e.g. limit ad tracking / analytics where available); some functionality of analytics may still operate at a reduced level as determined by the SDK.
3. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions
Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple (StoreKit). We do not collect your payment details; Apple does. We receive only information necessary to unlock premium features (e.g. that a subscription is active). Use of in-app purchase is also subject to Apple's privacy policy and terms.
4. iCloud and Cloud Sync
The app supports optional iCloud sync (CloudKit for your data and iCloud Drive for pet photos) so you can use the same data on multiple devices signed in with the same Apple ID. When sync is enabled:
- Your pet data, tasks, medications, health records, and weight history are stored in your iCloud account and synced across your devices. Pet avatar photos may be stored in your iCloud Drive.
- This data is subject to Apple's iCloud privacy and terms. We do not read or use your iCloud data for our own purposes beyond providing sync within the app.
- You can enable or disable sync in your device's iCloud settings or in the app settings where available.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not use your data for advertising (the app does not show third-party ads).
- We share data only as follows:
- Service providers: Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics) receives anonymous analytics and crash data as described above.
- Legal: We may disclose data if required by law or to protect our rights, safety, or the safety of others.
- With your action: If you use an export or share feature (e.g. emergency card), you choose what to share and with whom; we do not control recipients.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
- On your device: Data remains until you delete it in the app or delete the app. Deleting the app removes local data.
- Analytics/Crashlytics: Retained according to Google's policies; we do not retain identifiable user records ourselves.
- iCloud: When you use sync, data is stored in your iCloud account. You can delete it by turning off iCloud sync for the app and/or deleting the app and its iCloud data in your device settings.
If you want to ensure all local data is gone, delete the PetFamily app from your device. For analytics/Crashlytics, see Google's policies and your device settings.
7. Security
We rely on Apple's and Google's security measures for the device, iCloud, and Firebase. Your content is stored on your device and, when iCloud sync is enabled, in your iCloud account; we do not operate servers that store your pet or health data.
8. Children
PetFamily is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided data in the app, please contact us and we will help remove it.
9. International Users
The app is available in multiple regions. Data is stored on your device and (when applicable) in iCloud; Firebase may process data in the United States or other countries where Google operates. By using the app, you consent to this transfer to the extent allowed by your local law.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or via the App Store. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
11. Your Rights and Choices
- Access and correction: Your main data is in the app; you can view and edit it there.
- Deletion: Delete content in the app or delete the app to remove local data.
- Analytics/Crashlytics: Use device settings to limit tracking where available; we do not use your data for ads.
- Notifications/Camera/Photos: You can revoke these permissions in iOS Settings at any time.
If you are in the European Economic Area, UK, or other regions with specific privacy laws, you may have additional rights (e.g. access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection). Contact us to exercise them.
